Q: When I power up, my system shows an error EC81 and hangs after the system test. What is going on?
A: A DMA request is sometimes "jammed" in the internal disk bus at power-on. You can ignore the EC81 message and continue normally; the error does not impair system performance. This problem has been observed once in a great while on a few machines. Typing [Alt][Cmd]-* is the easiest way to clear it. If the problem persists, call the NeXT service department.
